28th – ‘From Pursuit to Passions to Profession’  -  Ashley Franklin, ARPS, ABPPA, APAGB

Ashley has been a member of Derby City Photographic Club for 30 years and is now a professional photographer.  You may recognize him as the ‘voice’ of N&EMPF on the Exhibition A/V Show CD.

Whilst pursuing a career on BBC Local Radio, photography became a keen pursuit, swiftly turning to a passion as he poured through photo magazines and books, fired by the images of famous photographers as well as lecturers and photographers from his own club in Derby.

Eventually the passion evolved into a profession. After leaving Radio Derby in 2000 to pursue a freelance career involving broadcasting, film and theatre criticism and feature writing, photography eventually became his vocation, mainly because of the digital revolution.

Following the initial success of selling his images he has also branched out into weddings, portraits, portfolios, and commercial event photography and has  been building up a stock of photos for an image library, particularly of Derbyshire through his involvement as writer/photographer with Derbyshire Life & Countryside. Our members will really enjoy  both his photography and commentary, which should give us a good deal to think about. Full details of Ashley's work can be found on his web site at: Ashley Franklin Photography
